The 2019 Ornament
The Virginia State Capitol is a world-renowned work of architecture, housing the oldest continuously elected representative legislature in the New World. Among the most celebrated rooms in the Capitol is the two-story Rotunda, where Jean-Antoine Houdon’s 1789 statue of George Washington proudly stands under the Capitol’s grand interior dome and skylight. The Capitol dome is the inspiration for the 2019 ornament, as a symbol of the 400th anniversary of the planting of democracy in Virginia and the continued strength of the representative government in America.
The official Capitol Square Ornaments are a series of annual collectible ornaments, featuring the historic treasures of Capitol Square.
